My interactive map has been attracting up to 400 people a day (as of 1/10/24), and my website itself ranks in the top 3 for (currently) 20 search terms relevant to things I write about. Number 1 for some too, which has surpassed any expectations I had by a long way.
The map has a Google Maps link to your place from wherever the reader is, a link to a website or Facebook page, and a link to my last Instagram post about your place. This is what is gaining the fastest traction and therefore the largest exposure for potential punters.
The aim of the exercise was always to raise awareness of the independent hospitality scene in Birmingham, and some local boozers too. My B Town Instagram account charts my weekly foray into the indie scene, and in over 5 years I have gained a lot of attention and traction.
I generally don’t accept PR invites, and I try and make everything I do as authentic as it can be as a result of this, to show an honest and real experience. I only shout about things I genuinely enjoy. I also try my very best not to accept free food or drink from places, this is sometimes difficult when people are so adamant after I’ve helped them so much. I certainly don’t ask for anything.
To help maintain the website, which is for the benefit of mostly independent cafes, coffee shops, restaurants, bars, and breweries that I have good things to say about (you), I am requesting a suggested donation of £15 for a 12 month period (roughly 4.1p per day). It isn’t a lot, and it would take the ongoing financial burden off me directly and offer you some great exposure.
